Mass Comm debuts new website

After months of work, the VCU School of Mass Communications is launching a new website to better serve students and alumni.

Work on the new site began in fall 2010. A group of faculty and staff, headed by Michael Hughes, the school’s assistant director for development, chose a consultant to design the site. We selected CRT/Tanaka, a marketing and public relations firm based in Richmond, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Washington and Norfolk.

“This new website is very interactive and very engaging, and from a user perspective, it’s very inviting. It invites curiosity,” said Dr. Yan Jin, the school’s interim director.

“As a faculty member, I’m excited to see the new content. I’m sure our students and alumni share the excitement.”

The school is in the process of moving information from our old website to this one. If you have suggestions or ideas for enhancing our online presence, please contact Hughes at mehughes@vcu.edu.

The school’s new site is built on the WordPress content management system — a popular platform for creating websites and blogs. VCU established a WordPress server in July. The School of Mass Comm was the first unit at VCU to launch a WordPress site.
