Dr. Yuan Zhang currently teaches journalism and broadcast writing courses. Before joining academia, she worked as a news editor and anchor for CCTV News at China Central Television in Beijing. During her broadcast journalism career, she won numerous national and regional awards including the China Rainbow Journalism award.
Her research interest centers on the effects of culture on the crafting, processing, and impact of news and strategic media messages. Her recent work published in the Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly explores factors influencing individualistic and collectivistic cultural orientations reflected in Chinese TV advertising.
Dr. Zhang holds a master’s degree from the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
